Anonymized vessel case. A prolonged electrical investigation was carried out to capture power-quality behaviour under real vessel loading and to identify generator-side faults that could not be resolved from short static checks.
The vessel required a broader view of its electrical condition rather than a single component check. Power quality, transformer heating, generator control faults and cabinet thermal conditions all had to be assessed under operating load.
Several issues were present at the same time and some were strongly load-dependent. Short measurements could miss harmonic distortion or thermal behaviour, while generator control faults needed to be separated from the wider power-quality findings.
We logged the electrical system with a power analyzer for approximately 56 hours to capture behaviour across changing vessel loads. Current harmonic distortion reached approximately 90–95% THDi, with strong 3rd, 5th and 7th harmonic components.
A transformer hotspot of approximately 123°C was measured at about 730 kW load. Generator-side checks also identified a Generator 4 PLC fault, a Generator 1 governor power-supply failure, and deficiencies in generator-cabinet cooling.
The measurements showed that the vessel did not have one isolated electrical problem. Significant harmonic distortion and thermal loading were present alongside separate generator-control and cooling deficiencies.
This separated the power-quality findings from the individual generator faults and provided a technically defensible basis for corrective-work priorities.
The diagnostic scope identified the principal measurable electrical conditions and the generator-side defects requiring corrective work. The vessel team received a clear basis for repair planning rather than a single speculative component recommendation.
This case is presented as a diagnostic investigation; it does not claim that every identified corrective action was completed during the same attendance.
Extended logging matters when a fault depends on vessel load or operating state. Combining long-duration measurements with equipment-level checks can distinguish system-wide power-quality problems from separate control, cooling or component faults.
